Lyceum of Abhorrence

This zone is located on Fear Tainted Island in Tenbrous Tangle. Use the cloud station by HoS to fly to Vultak and then to Fear Tainted Island.

Quests in the zone: Amygdalan Invasion, given by NPC Zhivaz Ne'pasdar, who stands up on the rocks by the cloud station on Fear Tainted Island. You must speak Dragon in order to receive the quest. Let your RL know if you are on the quest prior to raid zone in.

Trash Mob's

The zone has a pattern to it that must be followed to get to the named's. First all the trash mobs must be cleared in the first room and the 4 rooms to the right and left (2 on each side). Once those are all cleared, the golems in the first room become active. Once those are killed, the Essence of Fear becomes attackable in the first room. The first room has 4 orbs in it that radiate an AOE Fear. The only 2 places to avoid them are in the center of the room or in the hallway. We prefer to fight him in the hallway. Once the Essence of Fear is dead, the two passageways deeper in on the right and left side rooms will open. The left side leads to Gnillaw the Demented. The right side leads to Gnorbl the Playful. Once these are defeated, there are some trash mobs in the hall that leads to Vilucidae.

Make sure you bring lots of mana regen potions/poison as the named's here have loads of health and the fights will last well over 7 or 8 minutes. We recommend going high mitigation in the MT group as it eases the healers job and allows them to handle their mana much more efficiently.

Named Monsters

Essence of Fear

  • Mob Health: (73 Epic x4 Named, Approx HP: 2 million) [1]
  • Melee Attacks: Auto-attacks with crushing and mental damage (4500 dmg)
  • Special Attacks:
  1. Fear's Grasp - Mental AOE Fear and power drain every 30 seconds

Strategy

Ok, he is supposed to have a power drain and an AOE fear. However, when we took him down, he only cast it once and that was on a single target (who resisted it). So, I don't know if he was bugged that night or if they've changed how he operates. We don't fight him in the room. We pull him into the hallway and then begin the long process of beating the snot out of him. If he does happen to do the AOE fear every 30 seconds or so, we just have the healers joust it. Everyone else crouches.

Gnillaw the Demented

  • Mob Health: (73^^^ Epic x4 Named (Approx. HP: 2,800,000) ) [2]
  • Melee Attacks: Crushing
  • Special Attacks:
  1. Stunning Cry - Single Group Crushing DD (2k, 4k if you're a mage) with stun - Seems to only do this 2 or 3 times during the fight
  2. Gnillaw's Fear Strike - Slashing AOE with knockback (3k-5k) every 25-40 seconds

He comes with:

  • 4 Newly Converted Droags
  • Mob Health: 50,000

Strategy

The hardest part of this fight is the pull. The damage can be very spiky at first because of the 4 adds. We pull him into the hallway and do not fight him in the room. This negates the knockback as there's not much room to get knocked around in there. Once the adds go down, it's simply a stamina fight. You can joust the AOE, but it's ideal to heal through it as the longer the fight goes, the less of a chance you have to succeed. When he gets down to 1% health, he will heal himself back up to 25%. He supposedly does some very spiky nuking damage when he gets to 2% health, so go all out once you get him that low.

Gnorbl the Playful

  • Mob Health: (72^^^ Epic x4 Named, Approx. HP: 2,100,000) [3]
  • Melee Attacks: Crushing (1500 - 4000)
  • Spell Attacks: Heat, Mental
  • Special Attacks:
  1. Gaze of Writhing Agony - ST Mental DOT (2k dmg initial and 800 dmg every 12 seconds) on a 75 second timer
  2. Focused Debhilitating High Beam - ST Heat DD (3000 dmg)
  • He comes with:
    • Fearling Tot (x12)
    • Mob Health: 25,000
  • Every 25-30 seconds he summons:
    • Gnorbl the Playful's Fearling Friend (x3)
    • Mob Health: Next to nothing
    • Auto-Attack Type: Crushing (5k dmg)
    • Special Attacks:
    1. Playful Taunt - AOE Taunt that will make you change your target from Gnorbl to them
    2. Fearling Friends Fearling Heal - 40,000 Heal when they die
    3. Fearling Friend - Crushing DD (10k-14k dmg)

Strategy

  • Have a /target Gnorbl the Playful macro made. Gnorbl will cast a spell that will transfer target to his Tots and/or no one.
  • First wave of tots are burned to death
  • After first wave of Tots is dead, cease using any AoE spells. This includes dumbfires and pets that have AoE abilities.
  • Target Gnorbl directly for duration of fight.
  • Gnorbl will spawn more Tots. Mezzers will mez the tots. These will heal him if killed, so it is important to use your target Gnorbl macro so you do not kill the Tots by mistake.

Vilucidae the Priest of Thule

  • Mob Health: (73^^^ Epic x4 Named, Approx. HP: 2,800,000) [4]
  • Special attacks:
  1. Raging Blow - Frontal Cone Crushing Barrage (1500 dmg) - On a random timer
  • Changes stances during fight
    • STANCE OF FRIGHT (offensive stance)
    1. Active between 100 and 75% health.
    2. 25% chance to double attack.
    3. Attack speed increased.
    4. Possible frontal barrage.
    • STANCE OF TERROR
    1. Active between 75 and 50% health
    2. Chance to reflect spells at their caster.
    3. Avoidance increased.
    4. Melee crit chance greatly increased.
    • STANCE OF DREAD (healing stance)
    1. Active between 50 and 25% health.
    2. In-combat health regen increased.
    3. Rispostes 25% of frontal attacks.
    • STANCE OF THULE (defensive stance)
    1. Active between 25 and 0% health
    2. Ripostes 50% of frontal attacks.
    3. Avoidance, mitigation, and magic resistance greatly increased.
    4. Cures all debuffs and DoTs from himself when he enters stance.

Strategy

  • Mob will be fought at top of stairs, where Gnorbl was slain.
  • Pet pull mob.
  • MT will hold mob against the wall with its back towards the raid. Vulicidae does not have a constant AoE, however, he does have a strong frontal attack.
  • If you get aggro, run to the MT immediately to prevent the rest of the raid from dying by the mob's frontal attack.
  • Pay attention to the stances. The strategy for each stance is as follows:
   Stance of Fright - Offensive stance - barrage/AE - range attack/spells/ca only
Stance of Terror - Spell resistant, no casting. Big DPS stage.
   Stance of Dread - burn.
Stance of Thule - slow and steady DPS. It is hard for the MT to hold aggro in this stance.
